Last week, Felipe Calderon, Mexico's President, went to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama and later spoke infront of Congress. As a naturalized citizen I couldn't have been more disgusted by what I saw both the President of Mexico do and members of Congress and the Obama administration do.
I was disgusted first by the hypocracy displayed by Mr. Calderon discrediting a law which I believe he hasn't read or does not understand. As some may know, the law is nearly identical to the Federal Law. So why was Mr. Calderon not critizing Congress or the President? The other issue is that Mexico has tougher laws in the books against illegal inmigration than does the United States. Crossing the boarder either the north or the south has very bad consequences. Illegals are automatically stopped without any other reason than a police officer's decision to check your papers. If none can be presented people can be arrested and deported rather quickly. In Mexico, we are told, local authorities in the border themselves do the deporting. The illegals do not go infront of a judge or taken before inmigration authorities. The point is that some jails in boarder cities and towns where illegals are sent are not par with human rights. Conditions and treatment of those jailed are so poor that even the U.N. has condemed Mexico for this.
But most of us know why Mr. Calderon did what he did.. the answer is MONEY!. Illegals and legal residents from Mexican origin in the United States send over 20 billion dollars a year. Plain and simple. Illegal immigration to the United States is equivalent to having a company like GM or Walmart headquartered in the country.
Mr. Calderon had his reasons, but what reasons does Congress have? DOn't they swear to uphold the constitution and defend the Unites States and the citizens they represent? Then why didn't they tell Mr. Calderon to SHUT UP! He should have been deported back to Mexico in our opinion. Who does he think he is? It is shameful.
